Enjoy a Fun Boating Day Trip With These Handy Tips

Getting out on the water for a fun boating day isn’t just a way to enjoy the best that Mother Nature has to offer – it’s also a great opportunity to spend time with your friends, family members and other loved ones. As summer is in full flow, more and more people will be taking to the water than ever. Before you head out for your adventure, however, it’s important to keep a few key things in mind. You can enjoy the best boating day you’ve ever had – and the safest – with these handy tips.

Safety First

Before you find yourself out on the water, make sure that your boat has the proper safety equipment BEFORE you embark. This means a properly fitted life jacket for every person on board, along with other emergency equipment that you may need if you run into any trouble. Not only will you be able to stay safe, but also you’ll create the type of peace-of-mind you need to enjoy the carefree day you deserve.

Protect Your Body

You’ll also want to make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the occasion, as the sun is not something to be trifled with. Even if you’re going to be headed out on a cloudy day, remember to use sunscreen. The Australian sun can burn in just a few short minutes and water will reflect that sunlight and increase its intensity. You’ll also want to wear a wide-brim hat, bring your favourite pair of sunglasses with you (and maybe spares just in case!) and make sure that you drink plenty of water all day long. Soft drink and alcohol is no substitute for water, and alcohol should be avoided in case of mishap.

You’ll also do well to pack enough food for everyone on your trip – and ensure dietary requirements for the group are met – so you can avoid the hassle of docking and enjoy your lunch or dinner on the water. It’ll give you more time to spend on your watery adventure.

Pack More Than You Think You'll Need

Along those same lines, you’ll also want to bring “extra” of just about every item on your packing list. If you think you’re only going to need one pair of swim trunks, bring two. If there are five people who will be on your boat, bring seven or eight towels. Water shoes, hats, lip balm – it doesn’t matter. Somehow, you always end up needing more than you need and remember the number one rule of fun boating days – it’s better to have sunscreen and not need it than need sunscreen and not have it.

Maintain Your Seamanship

Finally, one of the most important ways to enjoy a fun day of boating without worrying about accidentally creating a dangerous situation involves taking a maritime training course from Maritime & Safety Training.
