Smart & Skilled

Your ticket can cost a lot less than the full price. Smart and Skilled is a NSW Government program that helps people train for the jobs the state needs. We’re an approved provider, so eligible students pay a subsidised fee instead of the full course cost.

What Smart and Skilled covers

Eligible students get two things.

Subsidised training up to and including Certificate III.
Government funding for Certificate IV and above, where the qualification sits in a priority area.

Do you qualify?

You’ll usually qualify if all four of these are true.

You’re 15 or older.
You’ve left school.
You live or work in NSW.
You’re an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, a humanitarian visa holder or a New Zealand citizen.

There are exceptions. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people with a disability, can qualify on different terms.

Done a VET course at school? That won’t affect your eligibility. Neither will a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.

Which of our courses are subsidised

Four of our qualifications are funded under Smart and Skilled.

Our short courses sit outside the program. Shipboard safety, marine radio and first aid are full fee.

What you’ll pay

Your fee depends on the qualification, what you’ve studied before and your circumstances.
