Our Journey in Maritime Training

NSW Fishing Industry Training Committee Ltd (FITC)
Trading as Maritime and Safety Training (MAST)
Registered Training Organisation (RTO 90440)

At Maritime and Safety Training (MAST), we are committed to providing high-quality training and assessment services. We understand that circumstances can change and have developed this Refund Policy to ensure students clearly understand their rights and obligations before enrolling in a course.

This policy should be read in conjunction with our Terms and Conditions, Student Handbook and applicable Australian Consumer Law.

Payment Options

MAST offers several convenient payment methods:

  • Online payment in full (Credit Card or EFT)
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
  • Afterpay
  • Zip Money
  • Approved instalment payment plans arranged directly with MAST

Regardless of the payment method selected, the student’s financial obligations remain subject to this Refund Policy.

Cooling Off Period

Students who enrol online may cancel their enrolment within any cooling-off period required by Australian Consumer Law or the terms of the payment provider, provided they have not:

  • commenced training;
  • accessed online learning materials;
  • completed any assessment activities; or
  • attended practical training.

Where course access has commenced, this Refund Policy applies.

Non-Refundable Training

Training services are progressively consumed as they are delivered.

Accordingly, refunds will not be provided for:

  • Units of Competency that have been commenced or completed;
  • Theory learning that has been accessed or completed through the Learning Management System (LMS);
  • Assessment activities that have been submitted or marked;
  • Practical training sessions attended;
  • Practical assessments undertaken;
  • Workplace assessments completed;
  • Competency conversations, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), or Credit Transfer processing once commenced;
  • Administrative fees already incurred by MAST.

Once a student has commenced a Unit of Competency, the training service is considered to have been partially supplied.

Withdrawal Before Course Commencement

Students who withdraw before their course commences may be eligible for a refund, less any administration costs already incurred by MAST.

Where online learning resources, enrolment processing, or student accounts have already been created or accessed, MAST may deduct reasonable administration and resource preparation costs from any refund.

Withdrawal After Course Commencement

Once a course has commenced, refunds will generally not be available.

This includes where a student has:

  • logged into the LMS;
  • accessed learning materials;
  • completed online theory;
  • attended classes;
  • attended practical training;
  • undertaken assessments.

Students remain responsible for payment of all outstanding course fees.

Instalment Payment Plans

Students who elect to pay by instalments enter into an agreement to pay the full course fee.

Withdrawal from a course does not automatically cancel the payment agreement. Outstanding instalments remain payable unless otherwise agreed in writing by MAST.

Course Completion Certificates, Statements of Attainment or Qualifications cannot be issued until all course fees have been paid in full.

Afterpay and Zip Money

Where payment has been made using Afterpay or Zip Money:

  • refund requests remain subject to this Refund Policy;
  • approved refunds will be processed back to the original payment provider;
  • students remain bound by the terms and conditions of their agreement with Afterpay or Zip Money.

MAST cannot alter or waive obligations arising under agreements between students and third-party finance providers.

Student Non-Attendance

Failure to attend training, practical sessions or assessments does not automatically entitle a student to a refund.

Students who are unable to attend should notify MAST as soon as possible. Where appropriate and subject to availability, MAST may offer alternative training dates or course transfers at its discretion.

Additional fees may apply where practical training or assessments must be rescheduled.

Course Transfers

At MAST’s discretion, students may request to transfer to another scheduled course. Transfer requests should be made in writing.

Approval depends on:

  • course availability;
  • regulatory requirements;
  • trainer availability;
  • timing of the request.

Transfer fees may apply.

Course Cancellation by MAST

If MAST cancels a course and cannot offer a suitable alternative date, students may choose to:

  • receive a full refund of fees paid for the cancelled training that has not been delivered; or
  • transfer to another available course.

Refunds will only apply to training not yet delivered.

MAST is not responsible for travel costs, accommodation, loss of income or other consequential expenses.

Exceptional Circumstances

MAST understands that exceptional circumstances may arise, including serious illness, injury or compassionate grounds.

Refund requests based on exceptional circumstances will be considered individually and may require supporting documentation.

Approval is entirely at the discretion of MAST and will take into account:

  • the amount of training already delivered;
  • regulatory obligations;
  • resources already committed; and
  • costs already incurred.

Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in this Refund Policy excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

Where MAST is required by law to provide a refund, repair, replacement or other remedy, this policy will be interpreted consistently with those statutory rights.

How to Request a Refund

Refund requests must be submitted in writing and include:

  • student’s full name;
  • student number (if known);
  • course name;
  • reason for the request;
  • supporting documentation (where applicable); and
  • bank account details if a refund is approved.

Requests should be emailed to [email protected]

MAST will acknowledge receipt of the request and aims to provide a written decision within 10 business days.

Approved refunds will normally be processed within 10 business days of approval.
